The dead mall your family remembers is now the Northland's most watched comeback. Here is the real scoreboard, not the rendering.
The real numbers
Metro North Crossing is a 106-acre redevelopment of the former Metro North Mall by IAS Partners. The widely quoted $192 million figure is from 2019. As of February 2026, local reporting puts it at a $250 million-plus project with roughly $100 million invested in completed phases, including the $60 million Woodstone apartments. Open right now
T-Shotz (52,000 square feet of golf entertainment), Whataburger, Hawaiian Bros, Dutch Bros, HOTWORX, Bloom Nails and Third Street Social. Chick-fil-A opened its dual drive-thru at Barry Road and Wyandotte in December 2025, and Swig opened in January 2026. The Furniture Mall of Missouri opened in the former Macy's in July 2026: about 150,000 square feet and over 1,000 room displays. Source: Kansas City Star, July 2, 2026.
Announced, not open: watch the dates
NRG Adventure Park (46,000 square feet in the old Macy's: ziplines, ninja course, ropes course) was announced for early 2026, then moved to late 2026. As of my check on November 1, 2026, I can find no opening date in any record. Tiki Taco has a signed lease for a standalone building at Barry and Jefferson targeting late 2026. Imo's Pizza was expected in late February 2026 and I cannot confirm it opened. That is not me being negative; that is what the record shows, and when it changes this page changes.
